Hey Revu! Thanks for your patience and suggestions regarding this policy; you helped us have some great conversations.
We've decided to stick with our policy that malleable protagonists can only be played in Rubilykskoye if they have consistent canon storylines. Minor changes, such as reactions and flavor text, are not an issue, but if plot events are substantially changed by player choices, then those characters will not be accepted into the game. Obviously, as you've highlighted, this can also apply to some NPCs from those games, and we will factor that in when evaluating applications for those characters as well. These characters will have to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
This rule broadly eliminates characters with variable canon endings in situations where the character is played from after that ending. If the ending is the only variance, those characters can be played from before the inflection point for that decision.
If you're interested in our reasoning, we've detailed it below:
One consideration was whether or not the "multiversal shenanigans" you reference are a fundamental part of the canon storyline or not. For example, in a canon AU situation, 2016 Loki who exists in the Loki TV show is a different Loki than the one in Ragnarok, and we understand in-universe that this is true for the MCU. This is also true of other canon AUs like Supernatural. However, in Mass Effect, these are 'meta' multiverses that exist only outside of the universe of the game, so they would be new information to the characters residing within them.
Another consideration was the difficulty of evaluating applications that involve charting a complex series of decision trees, as well as the aforementioned increased likelihood of strained player communication not just between castmates but between existing players and later applicants. We feel this policy is the simplest approach for our game management.
